Galaga Legions Releases on Wednesday
(via Gaming Today) - Reimagining classics has been the hot thing as of late, oftentimes with phenomenal results (see: Pac-Man: Championship Edition and Bionic Commando: Rearmed). Galaga is a natural step forward as one of those “original games” like Pac-Man and Space Invaders, and this Wednesday you’ll be able to experience Galaga in modern fashion with the release of Galaga Legions.

A Heavy Update: Arena Mode Coming to Team Fortress 2
(via Gaming Today) - The details have almost all been released for the Heavy class update Team Fortress 2 will be getting tomorrow. We have a new community map (CP_Steel), a new Goldrush map in Badwater Basin, 35 achievements, two unlockable weapons (Natascha and the K.G.B., with the third to be revealed tomorrow), and today we’ve learned another piece: Arena mode.

Matchmaking and More Coming in Phase 2 Release of Impulse
(via Gaming Today) - Stardock’s digital distribution platform, Impulse, has been available for two months now, and it’s about time for the first major update. Dubbed “Phase 2,” this update had been previously promised to include Achievement and game rankings support, as well as a slate of other features and new software and support from publishers.

Final Fantasy XIII Demo Will Be Over Two Hours Long
(via Gaming Today) - There have been many game demos before that people spent hours on (God only knows how many times I played that Metal Gear Solid 2 demo packaged with ZOE). But how many demos have taken that long for just one playthrough? Apparently, that’s exactly what Square-Enix has planned for the Final Fantasy XIII demo, which will take PS3-owners through an early portion of the game.

American Psychological Association Names Videogames Powerful Learning Tools
(via Gaming Today) - An optimistic look at the effects of videogames on players has been offered by the American Psychological Association via the Associated Press. The APA goes as far as to refer to videogames as “powerful learning tools.” Researchers gathering in Boston for the American Psychological Association convention detailed a series of studies suggesting that video games can be powerful learning tools — from increasing the problem solving potential of younger students to improving the suturing skills of laparoscopic surgeons.

145 Fallout 3 Screenshots Leaked Online
(via Gaming Today) - What do you get when you combine a special event from Bethesda with a few people who don’t mind ignoring their NDAs? A whole lot of unofficial screenshots for Fallout 3. Recently, Bethesda held a press event in Taiwan where people were able to get some hands-on time with the beginning of the game.

Does It Actually Matter if Kids Buy M Rated Videogames
(via Gaming Today) - CNet’s Digital Home asks a compelling question, “Does it matter who buys video games?” In this recent article, the author sites a survey that finds 17% of the GTAIV videogames sold were bought by or for kids ages 6-17. Given that 80% of the kids of the kids that didn’t buy it themselves got it from their parents or older siblings the author takes a stance against regulating the sale of M rated games.

Dungeons & Dragons Online Module 8 Storms GenCon
(via Gaming Today) - Turbine was in attendance at Gen Con showing off module 8 for Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. Kate Paiz, senior producer of DDO, demonstrated the new character generation system with it’s alternate builds for each traditional archetype. She also gave an enthusiastic explanation of the new NPC hirelings that are coming out in Module 8.

ASUS EAH4870 Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Card: Find Out if It's Worth the Wait
(via Gaming Today) - ASUS’s delayed the launch of their HD 4870 based cards felt like the manufacturer was stringing gamers along with promises of giving NVidia some serious competition at a reasonable price yet failing to deliver. The HD 4870 is a more budget oriented model that normally would result in lower performance along with a lower price point but the GDDR5 memory and a change from the 4850’s RV770 Pro chips to the less costly RV770 XT architecture puts a card into the sub $300 price range that is built to match NVIDIA’s 9800 GTX+ Line of cards.

The Witcher Special Edition Trailer
(via Gaming Today) - This September I have reasons to rejoice other than my miniature clone army heading back to school. The Witcher Enhanced giving me more reasons to appreciate a title that’s already one of my favorites. CD Projekt RED has put out a teaser trailer for the game, showing off the new look and environments included in the update.

Japan Getting Mega Man Energy Drink
(via Gaming Today) - Once again, Japan gets the coolest swag. To commemorate the release of the their new retro-looking Mega Man 9, Capcom is apparently releasing an energy drink to promote it. What’s makes the drink so cool though is that the can is fashioned to look like the Blue Bomber’s signature E-Tanks.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo Coming This Thursday
(via Gaming Today) - I guess when LucasArts said a demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was coming this month, what they really meant was “in less than a week.” Now LucasArts has confirmed that the demo will actually be hitting the PSN and Xbox Live this Thursday, August 21. Players will be able to play through one of the early levels in the game, the TIE Fighter Construction Facility.
