News: Original Xbox Live to close in April
(via Game Industry) - Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue Xbox Live for the original Xbox on April 15. The move will end online play for the old console, as well as online play for Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360. "This isnÂ’t a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox Live community," said Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live.

News: Japanese charts: Dragon Quest VI sells over 900k in first week
(via Game Industry) - Square Enix's Dragon Quest IV has gone straight to number one on the Japanese all-formats chart after selling just over 900,000 in its first week. Behind it another new game - SEGA's Resonance of Fate on PlayStation 3 - took second place, with sales of 118,000.

News: Xbox Live Arcade topped $100m in 2009
(via Game Industry) - Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade generated $103.4 million (£65.9m) during 2009, a 34 per cent increase from the previous year, according to a report from Forecasting and Analysing Digital Entertainment (FADE). The average price of a downloadable game for Xbox Live also rose significantly from $8.
