Tetris Party is Tetris crossed with other stuff
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Video, WiiWare Tetris has had its udders suckled dry down the years, with innumerable spin-offs, follow-ups, and twists on the original formula all taking their turn on its now-withered teat. Tetris DS remains, for this blogger, the definitive Tetris experience, but the Balance Board-compatible Tetris Party is looking extremely promising on the evidence of these first videos.

GOTY 2008: Celebrity Sports Showdown
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, ScreensClick image for more ludicrous, I-can't-believe-they-actually-did-this screens. When we took on this job, we never quite expected to be commenting on a picture of country music star Keith Urban skiing, but we'll do our best. So that's Keith Urban skiing, and this is Celebrity Sports Showdown, the latest Wii project in EA Sports' "Freestyle" sub-brand.

Metareview: Madden NFL 09 All-Play
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Metareview This year's Madden NFL 09 All-Play on the Wii has gotten a lot of buzz. The title has tried to cater to the Wii's casual crowd. Yet, it also attempts to keep its hardcore audience and not alienate them with all kinds of casual additions. It's a tough line to toe.

In the year 20XX, Capcom might release more Mega Man
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Interviews, WiiWare While this is a skip and a hop from being glorious confirmation of more Mega Man, this Comic-Con interview seems to suggest that Capcom is already thinking of follow-ups to Mega Man 9.We can't identify the Capcom developer in the video above, but whoever he is, we like what he's saying -- especially around two-thirds of the way through the video, when our mysterious new hero announces: "Fans will want more Mega Man titles, so I think we'll continue with it, especially after the huge response we're seeing now to Mega Man 9.

Save your VC games to the 'Wii hard drive'
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, Fan stuff, Rumors, Peripherals And by "Wii hard drive" we actually mean "portable air conditioner." This image emerged from the bowels of the internet earlier today, purporting to be a Nintendo-designed hard drive for the Wii. The pranksters responsible for this didn't count on the razor-sharp observational skills of one JC Fletcher, who located this familiar-looking air conditioner at Amazon Japan.

Confirmed: Arkham Asylum not coming to Wii
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News Sorry folks, looks like the new game Batman: Arkham Asylum isn't going to be on Wii. It's purely a PS3 and Xbox 360 affair, as well as for the PC. Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams (we felt you needed the closure of knowing, rather than never mentioning the game again), but the title isn't planned for Wii as of right now.

Masked heroes emerge in Deca Sports to give you money
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News Hudson has revealed a super-secret society of, uh, people who play sports while masked, hidden away in their sports minigame collection Deca Sports. And if you reveal them in your copy of Deca Sports, you could win a $200 gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods! We suppose that's useful for people who like that particular variety of goods.

Revolutionary: Special Effects
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Revolutionary This week, graphics professionals and enthusiasts flocked to SIGGRAPH to share and discuss the latest technologies and techniques for making gorgeous computer graphics. The focus of the convention is mainly offline rendering (the stuff that we see in print, movies, and television that's too complex to be rendered in real time), but as computers and game consoles become more powerful, many of these methods and effects make their way into the realm of realtime rendering.

Welcome to 2000: DVD video playback enabled via homebrew
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Homebrew Homebrewer Erant has created a program that allows the Wii to read DVDs. It comes bundled with a media player program that lets you play DVD movies as well as view video files stored on an SD card, without any hardware modifications. You still need to be able to run homebrew on your Wii, but that's done easily enough.

Wii Sports Boxing workout equivalent to the real thing?
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News You know as well as we do that, with some games, you can really break a sweat while playing Wii. Some student researchers from Cleveland University have found out that, at least in Wii Sports Boxing, your workout with Wii is equivalent to that of real, traditional exercise (they aren't the first to conduct tests, though).

All eight Mega Man 9 boss sprites revealed
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, WiiWare Normally used only for the purpose of gauging exactly how sedentary a gamer's lifestyle is, Xbox 360 Achievements have finally proven their value to the rest of the world -- even the non-360-owning portion -- thanks to Capcom. The icons associated with the Mega Man 9 achievements just happen to be black-and-white renditions of character sprites from the game, including all eight bosses! If partial greyscale sprites are all we can get for now, we'll take 'em! And hastily make a Mega Man 2-style character select screen out of them!As for the achievements themselves, they "reveal" secrets like the fact that Dr.

We haven't gotten an official US date beyond 'Holiday 2008,' but two retailers seem to have agreed upon a potential date: November 3. Both Amazon and GameStop are taking preorders for the multiplayer musical toy thing, to ship (as of now, anyway) on that projected release date.

When someone sends out a distress call, he quickly hops down from atop his mountain of unsold copies of Zack & Wiki and Okami to help out. He may not be wearing a cape and mask, but we think he's a super hero.

Man named Wii shares his tale
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Fan stuff, InterviewsEven though MTV's story about New Yorker Wii Yatani will no doubt illicit numerous "lol, slow news day?" replies from hilarious internet japesters, we found it to be quite novel.Judging by his interview, Wii endured the same two problems that originally faced Nintendo's console when it was renamed: either people didn't know how to pronounce his name correctly, or they concocted the kind of puns about urine that should carry the death penalty (we're deadly serious).

Wii Warm Up: Have third party titles lived up to your standards?
(via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Wii Warm Up Sure, there's tons of shovelware on the Wii, but there are some genuine third-party gems, as well.
