Preorders open for Japanese Wii Music (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, Imports
Whatever you may think about Wii Music -- and we've heard what pretty much everyone on the Internet thinks about Wii Music, thank you -- there's no denying that it's an important, high-profile release. It's Nintendo's next big Shigeru Miyamoto game, and it's one of the cornerstones of Nintendo's whole Wii strategy.
Born for Wii: Dark Sector (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Born for Wii
Wait for it. Don't leave cover too soon. You're nearly surrounded. Bullets fly in from three directions, ricocheting off the paltry bit of cover protecting your crouched body. A grenade goes off nearby -- too close for comfort. And then it's time to strike back and slaughter another wave of enemy soldiers.

Strong Bad freezing? Take your Wii out of widescreen display mode (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, WiiWare

Mario pushes Olympic gold medalist to victory (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, Fan stuff
That up there is Kosuke Kitajima of Japan. He's just won a gold medal for swimming the breaststroke extremely quickly in that ongoing sporting event you may have heard about. Congratulations are in order then, but what's his secret? Strict 5am starts? Hours of training a day? A controlled diet? All three, we'd imagine, but also: Mario.
The cost to Brawl just got a lot cheaper (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Sales
If you've been waiting for a good chance to purchase one of the Wii's best games, know that Super Smash Bros. Brawl has just received a price cut over at Amazon. Instead of the reasonable sum of $49.99 (seriously, the game is jam-packed with content), you can now subtract a cool $10 from the price, which brings the game down to $39.
The Visible Mushroom Man (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Screens
This new Mushroom Men screen demonstrates the intuitive and slightly gross "life meter" used in the game. Rather than displaying some life bar, Mushroom Men alerts you to reduced health in a slightly more "natural" manner, namely loss of cap. Pax's mushroom cap is divided into chunks, and a section disappears with each hit taken, revealing more of the brain underneath.

MadWorld, indeed: the backlash begins (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News
Britain's most hysterical newspaper and preferred litter tray liner the Daily Mail has caught wind of MadWorld -- and it wants us to know all about it. For our children's safety. THINK OF THE CHILDREN.In a piece entitled "Parents horrified as most violent video game ever to launch on 'family friendly' Wii," the newspaper illogically huffs and puffs about the forthcoming Platinum Games project, which it claims has "shocked anti-violence pressure groups.
Nintendo registers mysterious trademark for 'Piktura' (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, Rumors
Siliconera spotted an unidentified Japanese trademark application from Nintendo, registered in June. The trademark is for the title "Piktura." Of course, it could be absolutely anything, from some kind of EyeToy-style webcam to a WiiWare game that makes jigsaw puzzles out of pictures on an SD card to some internal technology that consumers will never know about and which won't show up in Nintendo hardware for ten years.
Batman: Arkham Asylum announced, possibly for Wii? (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Rumors
With The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's stellar performance as the Joker still fresh in everyone's mind, who doesn't want to play a new, non-sucky Batman game? Of course, we have LEGO Batman to look forward to, but it's hard to feel like the Gotham bad-ass when you're controlling a plastic and deformed minifigure.

Wiimote used to launch something other than itself (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Mods, Controller
What do you get when you cross a device designed to track IR light and a computer-controlled missile-launching toy? A Wiimote covered in impossible-to-remove tacky duct tape residue! And also a fairly cool auto-aiming missile launcher. It looks like a simple enough project (now that someone else has written all the code): just tape a Wiimote to the sort of USB missile launcher found at ThinkGeek (for example), connect the Wiimote to your computer using Bluetooth, and use the GlovePIE code found in the tutorial.
