Real-time strategy -- you know, for kids (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Video
We're often critical of some of the children's games released on the Wii (one reason being, perhaps, that we're not the target market, but mostly because just how many pet sims do we really need for one console?). Crave seems to be taking a different route this time, though -- one that we can actually respect -- by coming out with Defendin' De Penguin, a real-time strategy game for kids.
Stringer: Wii is 'expensive niche' console (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: NewsHow does one reply to such a comment? Point out that Stringer is obviously incorrect, or just ignore it and hope it goes away? Unfortunately, big Howie S. won't be going anywhere as head honcho of Sony, appearing last week at the Allen & Co Media Conference.
Ocarina gets a spit-shine (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Fan stuff, Screens
Who needs all the "newness" of E3 when you can relive a masterpiece of days gone by? A team of modders went to the trouble of improving a selection of screenshots from Ocarina of Time, with sharp textures and ultra-high resolution. At the end of the day, these graphics are technically far behind most of the games released this generation(key word: most), but since we all lovingly play Ocarina of Time on a regular basis anyway, a sharp upgrade like this would be just what the doctor ordered.

Will it offer up a better experience than other competition on the console, such as Super Swing Golf 2 and Tiger Woods 09? Only time will tell.
SimAnimals simulates animals (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News
EA has just announced a new Sim satellite game called SimAnimals, in which, much like you mess with virtual families' lives in The Sims and ruin people's houses in MySims, you control a floating hand that interacts with various wild animals. You can "reach out and touch, pick up and move everything in the game from foxes and bears to trees and flowers.
Sonic Unleashed deets reveal more on level design (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: News, Interviews
The current edition of UK magazine GamesTM has a bunch of new details for Sonic Unleashed, mostly gleaned from chatting to lead designer Yoshihisa Hashimoto. In the four-page piece, we learn that the game eschews traditional Sonic locales in favor of nine different worlds, each set in a themed geographical location -- so instead of Green Hill Zone, we'll be guiding the blue one through levels based on The Great Wall of China, an African plain, New York City, and a Spanish villa.
New methods of crushing aliens (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Imports, WiiWare
The WiiWare sequel to Alien Crush is officially the hottest thing ever, even though we're not entirely keen on the new 3D look -- and even though we prefer Devil's Crush to Alien Crush. Among the many reasons it's super hot (reason the first: DUDE ALIEN CRUSH RETURNS) are the new ball upgrades.
Who needs E3? iPhone engraved with River City Ransom (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Fan stuff
When Sal Cangeloso of Geek.com had the chance to get his (no doubt super-expensive) iPhone engraved with a laser-etched design of his choice, he didn't opt for something as mundane as having his name on there (though "Sal Cangeloso" is one rad name).

DeepNote Guitar Hero robot will rock your face off (via Nintendo Wii Fanboy) - Filed under: Tech stuff, VideoOther than "amazing," you may also call the above contraption DeepNote. It's a working robot that can totally destroy you in Guitar Hero. Using a pair of "eyes," it watches the action on-screen, then playing those very notes in real-time. It's all done via a series of photodiodes, which pick up the changes in light from the screen in up to eight nanoseconds.

Batman Forever and Batman & Robin (OH SICK! YUCK! GROSS!) were pretty awful. Nay, they were horrendous. However, that isn't actually evidence to suggest the upcoming LEGO Batman game will be bad. In fact, the LEGO series hasn't had one misstep so far, with both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones iterations achieving exactly what they set out to do.
